Howling Bluff owners Luke and Jennifer Smith (above right) have announced a partnership with Blair and Faith Gillingham (above left). It’s a dynamic move, says Luke Smith, that will further enhance the winery’s reputation and allow him to focus his efforts in other critical areas.

Blair (who until recently was winemaker at Ruby Blues) will assume the role of winemaker. He brings considerable experience to the already well-respected Naramata Bench winery, with a couple of decades of vintages both at home and abroad.

Howling Bluff Fossil Free

Luke says he’ll now be able to fully pursue his goal of turning the winery into a net-zero farm and winery. His long term plan is to “radically reducing use of fossil fuels at Howling Bluff.”

In fact, Luke says he believes he can make Howling Bluff zero dependent on fossil fuels within three years!

“It was time to bring some young energy to the winery, and I’m excited about Blair’s talent and his experience with cool climate wines here in Canada, Europe, and the Southern Hemisphere,” he adds.

More from the release…

“The first task is to concentrate on the 2022 harvest-at-hand and to continue making great Howling Bluff wines with well-established vines,” says Gillingham. “I’m also looking forward to bringing the two decades of experience that I’ve cultivated from my wine expeditions around the globe. The plan is to continually evolve the wines in keeping with our dreams of pushing the quality forward in this world-class wine region.”
