From last year…

It was a fun time yesterday at the first annual Skills ‘n Spills fundraiser for the BC Hospitality Foundation. A ton of Vancouver restaurant and hotel teams competed for the coveted Skills ‘n Spills trophy, vying for top honours in events such as the Crack Off, Water Pong (Beer Pong), Baker’s Balance, Master of the Long Pour, Valet in the Dark, Ring the Bottle, Towel Snap… and plenty more.

Here was true BC Hospitality spirit at its very best! The costumes were inventive, competition keen to the max, the crowd beyond fun and the mood convivial. Some serious skills on display included bartenders pouring precisely under the clock, power sorting recycling and plenty more.

And, yes, there was no shortage of spills, especially at the concluding Apron Dash, when the entire team had to wrap itself in a giant apron (thank you Blackwood Apparel!) and run for the finish line.

In the end, it was Yaletown Distilling Co. who took top honours—with the most points across the board. They also managed to grab second place in fundraising. Huge congrats to them and to all the competitors. And even more kudos to event organiser Charles Zuckerman and his team. A great start! Next year will be bigger and even better!
