Diane Loomer, CM

Like many Vancouverites, I was truly saddened when I awoke this morning to the news that Diane Loomer passed away last night. As visionary choral director and composer Loomer touched a lot of people in her remarkable career, unquestionably highlighted by her founding of Chor Leoni and co-founding of Elektra, and their countless remarkable successes.

Those who know me know I have a background in choral music since I was a child, and still sing at a certain time of year. But the quality of these choirs shaped by Loomer still leaves me breathless …

Rest in Peace, Diane. And thank you for all the glorious music you brought into our lives over the years.

When I listen to Christmas Angel or Yuletide Fires this year I know they will be even more poignant than usual.
